The Island of Iona - May 2012

Home

Iona is a small island off the west coast of Mull in Scotland. It is considered by many to be one of the most holy places in the world.

Not being religious I wouldn't know - but it is a rather attractive place.

It receives its fame from St Columba, who landed and settled on the island in 563 AD with twelve of his followers.

Columba was a royal warrior from Donegal in Ireland and he used Iona as a base in order to bring Christianity to western Scotland.
